LEARN TO SEW: MAKE PYJAMAS! (26 MARCH)
There are currently no London workshops scheduled. Take one of our video workshops from home!
DATE: Sunday 26 March 2017
TIME: 11.00am - 5.00pm
TEACHER: Hannah Silvani of The New Craft House
PRICE: £115 (includes a goodie bag, drink and signed copy of Tilly's book Love at First Stitch)
WHO IS IT FOR?
If you want to start making your own clothes, this workshop offers the perfect introduction with an easy-peasy pyjama bottoms project using the Margot sewing pattern. You’ll need to be able to use a sewing machine first – this is a great follow on class from our Make Friends With a Sewing Machine workshop, which you can either take at our London studio or online from home.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
- How to start using sewing patterns and read their markings
- Techniques for cutting out fabric accurately
- The basics of clothing construction – including pinning, stitching seams and pressing
- How to sew pyjama bottoms, including drawstring and hem
"I loved the workshop. The teacher is extremely helpful and accommodates every query in an approachable, helpful manner." - a happy student
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING ALONG?
- 2.5m of light- to medium-weight cotton fabric, eg. lawn, shirting, double gauze or quilting cotton (take a look at the right-hand column of the blog for a list of lovely fabric shops)
We’ll provide thread, tools and a sewing machine for you to use on the day. You’ll also get a goodie bag to take away with you, including a signed copy of Tilly’s book, Love at First Stitch. At the end of the class we’ll celebrate your pyjama-making prowess with a drink!
Please note: It’s a good idea to wash, dry and iron the fabric before the workshop in case it shrinks. The pyjama pattern goes up to 120cm (47in) hips – if you need a larger size please let us know before booking.
WHO IS THE TEACHER?
Hannah is half of the crafty duo over at The New Craft House. She has been sewing for 7 years and is on a mission to make an entirely handmade wardrobe. She tries to make long-lasting, quality items and escape the fast fashion craze that leads to a lot of wasted clothes. Hannah regularly teaching sewing and craft classes using The New Craft House's own craft kits, as well as one to one lessons. She has taught anything from bomber jackets to bras! She's got a lot of Tilly's patterns in regular wardrobe rotation, so is excited to teach other people how to make them. You can see what she is making at @newcrafthouse.
