GET INSPIRED #SewingStevie
Made the top version. Some parts I found unnecessarily fiddly. Eg: why bother under stitching the facing when you then top stitch it and just make longer sleeves with turn back cuffs. I also left off the pocket because I thought it would pull the top out of shape. I used the hairband (genius!) instead of the ties. I loved the top stitching around the neck and although I originally thought the back bodice was again unnecessarily complex I really liked it in the end. I found there to be a lot of fabric wastage though especially after missing bits out and making the top not a dress. So when I made it for the second time out of a tablecloth from India I tweaked the layout and now I’m really pleased with the result.
Hi Zoe, thanks so much for your review! The understitching is included to help keep the neckline crisp and the facing secure, while the topstitching is more of a design feature that adds a lovely detail to the pattern. Plus, it’s a great new skill for beginners to learn, as we try to teach different techniques in each pattern. Regarding the cuffs, we wanted to avoid showing the inside of the fabric once turned, so that’s why they’re designed this way. As for the back bodice, it was intended to add a bit of character to the top without making it too plain - I’m glad you ended up enjoying the design! :) Hope you make many more Stevies in the future! Happy stitching! Virginija x
As a beginner sewer l would just like to say how easy to follow the instructions for Stevie were!I am really pleased with the result and looking forward to making more (and having a go at other Tilly and the Buttons patterns)Thank you so much!
Good instructions, easy to follow. Have made it several times already! Recommend for those new to sewing.
Great pattern, very easy to follow instructions. I made the Stevie dress and I will definitely be making more from this pattern but will come down a size or 2 as I did need to make some alterations. I think I must’ve measured myself incorrectly.
Have seen a couple of times on other people and I thought I must make this too!
