Easy to make, with no fiddly bits, Lotta is a perfect dressmaking project for beginners, or a satisfyingly speedy sew for more experienced stitchers. It has a blousy bodice and flared skirt, cinched in with a narrow elasticated waistline.

Choose between knee-length or midi-length skirt, with grown-on short sleeves or bracelet-length drop shoulder sleeves, with optional deep patch pockets. To make it even more versatile, you can make this dress in either woven fabric or stretchy jersey.

Fabric Suggestions

Light- to medium-weight drapey fabrics such as chambray, viscose (rayon), Tencel (lyocell), double gauze, brushed cotton or crêpe. The short
sleeve version can also be made in less drapey fabrics such as linen, cotton lawn, and seersucker.

More experienced? Try single knit drapey jersey, stretch velvet or light-weight French terry.

easy pattern

I have a few Tilly patterns and I love them. I have only cut out this one to size and I like that I can adjust it to fit, size 5. I am 4"10 and 75 yrs old and have a full bust. This pattern will be easy to wear and forgiving! I haven't cut out the fabric yet but I intend using a colourful patterned heavy viscose from Pound Fabrics. I think I could lengthen the bodice to make a simple top too.
I have lost count of how many times I have made the Orla top, sometimes lengthening it to a tunic or dress. It's getting dogeared now!
Incidentally I have been sewing since a small child and I would rate Tilly patterns the best ever. Thank you Tilly.
