Love at First Stitch - Demystifying Dressmaking

I’ve been sewing for only a year and was looking at trying some skirts and dresses. This book was pretty easy to understand and the first pattern I tried turned out great! I even added pockets!

As an intermediate sewist, I now recommend this book to many that want to learn how to sew. The classic styles may be slightly out dated to some but the techniques in this book will help you move on to other patterns with minimal instructions.. Tilly and the Buttons Blog is also an excellent resource.

Wabted to learn to sew after recently acquiring a sewing machine but was so put off by complicated patterns. This book was really helpful and clear and informative and great value with the patterns... i have all 3 of tillys books now and have managed the Safiya trousers :) and just completed my first ever skirt (granted ive made a fair few mostakes with this one) but learned a lot. Thankyou!! Toying now with taking advantage of the sale and purchasing some beginner patterns x

So clear and informative. Makes the daunting seem possible. I'm working my way through but the first pair of pj bottoms turned out brilliantly. I was so proud of myself- thank you!

I returned to sewing during the lockdown and recently bought Love at First Stitch. I have learned so much from this book. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and Tilly's chatty writing style is enjoyable. I made the Margot pyjama bottoms in one morning and am thrilled with them.

As well as offering the sewing patterns, Tilly has suggestions for ways to vary the look or cut of the clothes and shows how these can be done. If you are interested in making some clothes for yourself that you would be proud to wear this book is a great plan to start.

The cover price isn't cheap but when you consider that you get 7 good patterns and a whole raft of useful skills it seems good value.
