This patterns step by step instructions and pictures aided me to successfully make the shirt type top of the dress. The skirt instructions are a dream to follow. So far I have made the dress twice, mixing fabric for the sections.
So pleased you've enjoyed making our Lyra dress patterns, so much so you made twice, yay! Team Buttons x
The dress is a relatively easy to make and came out fine. But what I did not like at all were that the pattern does not have layers and no warning that there are no layers. I also have other patterns by this company that do not have layers. I use a projector for my patterns and not having layers makes it so much harder to see the right lines where they are close like in the neck or on the collar..
Hi Thorunn thanks so much for leaving your feedback. Our PDF patterns are not layered and although it is something that a couple of customers have asked for its not something we can factor in to our production process yet. We want to break down as many barriers to sewing as we can and adding layers is on the wish list. Kate x
After going back and forward regarding the question "do I need another shirt dress?", I decided that "yes, I do" and bought the Lyra dress this November. And I do not regret it! As with all TATB dresses, there is little I have to do regarding fitting the pattern to my body, only shortening the bodice (as my upper body is 3 cm shorter than regular size 2). I decided to make my first Lyra in a pink baby cord for a casual look. I was drawn to the two-tier look of the midi dress, but wanted the knee-length version, due to the choice of fabric. Using the lengthen and shorting lines in the pattern, I shortened the skirt pattern piece by half, and the midi skirt pattern piece so that the length was equal to the skirt pattern piece (remembering seam allowence). My hack turned out perfect for the fabric, and I just love the look. I also want to applaud the instruction notion stating to try on the bodice before placing the final button holes to make sure there is no gaping across the chest. So important. I have already bought a second fabric to make a regular Lyra midi-dress! I can't wait to see how it will turn out.
Yay Kristin! Wow your Lyra hack is inspired. Thank you so much for sharing this. We can't wait to see your other Lyra's please share on our social channels by using the hashtag #SewingLyra. Team Buttons x
Having never made a dress with buttons, let alone a collar I was pleasantly surprised in how easy the instructions were to follow! Somehow I ended up with a beautiful dress and the collar wasnt so scary and the buttons not at all wonky thanks to excellent pattern marking!
Yay! This is such a lovely message, thank you. We try our best to break down those seemingly complicated processes into bite-size steps. Plus we have lots of extra pattern support resources on our blog too. So pleased you've enjoyed your Lyra sewing experience. Team Buttons x
