I will never get bored of sewing this pattern. Along with Coco this started my sewing journey. The step by step instructions guide you through. This is a classic flattering figure hugging pencil Skirt shape. I have made this so many times , from summery linen and chambray to cord and recently a charcoal grey lined classy wool one for work. Each time I make it before I do the buttonholes I panick it won't fit, but I have checked my measurements, and it does when complete. Due to the darts that give it shape it needs to sit in the correct place on your waist to fit well. I have another wool one planned soon.
I made my Arielle skirt extra long (+20 cm, without more buttons) in a denim from Japan and loved it. Even the linning was easy to sew.
When I need to walk very fast… I can open one or two buttons
I have to make one more in cordory, the long version
Really pleased with the Arielle pattern. It was straightforward and fun to make and the finished skirt looks great. I had the pdf pattern printed on 2 large sheets of paper which was well worth the extra cost by the recommend company. It would have been a real puzzle putting together over 40 sheets of A4 paper otherwise. I used cotton canvas in pink and plain pink buttons. I have only just started sewing again after very long gap and already I have made several Tilly and the Buttons outfits all of which have very clear instructions and handy hints and very enjoyable to make. I am hooked now and recently bought Tillys three books. These are lovely books and have very helpful hints and tips and extremely well designed and thought out. They have full size patterns but you do need to trace them as there are several patterns on a sheet. My only regret is these patterns were not available back in the 1980s. Thank you Tilly for such lovely enjoyable patterns.
Love the arielle pattern. As it is a pdf had it printed by the recommended company 2 large sheets rather than printing myself and sticking together about 46 a4 sheets. I made my Arielle skirt using a pink canvas and pink poly cotton lining. I found it very enjoyable to make with very easy to follow instructions. I am very pleased with finished skirt. I have just started sewing again after a couple of decades and have been hooked on Tilly and Buttons patterns as they so stylish but easy to complete with very good colourful instructions. I have even purchased the books. I have had lots of compliments when I have worn a home made outfit (they cannot believe that I have made them). One extremely happy bunny. Just starting to do an Olive pinafore in tartan fine corduroy.
I really enjoyed making this pattern as the instructions were clear and was a quick sew, plus since it doesn't require a lot of yardage I can shop my stash. I made the Arielle out of corduroy for my sons girl friend and she loved it! I am currently making one for myself. I think it can be worn by all ages and there are so many possibilities with fabric and buttons to make it for any season.
Jill, thank you so much for your kind words and you're right Arielle is perfect for all ages. So pleased you have enjoyed sewing with our patterns. Team Buttons x
