GET INSPIRED #SewingRosa
I debated on getting this pattern as my chest measurement was just outside the size range. So glad I took the chance as this pattern had all the details I was looking for, princess seams, yoke, and a proper collar with a stand. The only adjustment I had to make was to "skimp" on the seam allowance in the bust area. I completed a top in a fine wale printed corduroy and another in a plaid flannel. Currently working on a denim dress where the top stitching will really shine. Have cut out another dress in Springy cotton print, planning on a short sleeve. This pattern will work for all seasons and the princess seams make fitting so simple. Your instructions are superb, and the photos are so helpful a confident beginner could certainly handle this pattern. This is the second Tilly pattern I've used and loved (Coco dress/top).
Thank you so much for your review, Diane! I'm so glad you took the chance on this pattern, and it's amazing to hear how versatile it’s been for you with all the different fabrics and styles! I’m so happy you found the instructions and photos helpful - can't wait to see your denim dress with all that topstitching! Happy sewing! Virginija x
I was a bit daunted by this pattern as it seemed more complicated than any other shirt I've made before by virtue of the princess seams, the yoke and the top stiching. However the instructions were great and it is wasn't that tricky after all - it just involves lots of pattern pieces! (I was very careful to label everything carefully with stickers so as not to confuse myself, especially the collar pieces that were cut in different directions.)
My fabric is so busy you can't really see the top stitching but the mock felled seams were a new skill for me to master, which was a bonus. I was lucky that the shape of it fits me without having to make any real adjustments - I just graded size 3 at the top into size 4 at the bottom to give me a little more room over the bum.
I used the free cuffed sleeve option (that can be found on the website) instead of the one that comes with the pattern as I wanted to make it more of a cold weather shirt (it is made of corduroy) and I couldn't see myself rolling the sleeves up and using the button tab.
Now I have this pattern I can definitely see myself having another go in a different fabric.
Hi C! Thank you so much for your in-depth review! I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the process and took on a more technically challenging pattern - and as you say, it’s a breeze! Your Rosa shirt looks absolutely lovely on you, like a glove! I’m so happy to hear you’ll be making another one in a different fabric - yay! Happy sewing! Virginija x
I really like this pattern. As the pattern pieces are quite small i found it very economical with fabric, the faux lapped seams look much more complicated than they are, and it can look very different depending on the fabric you use.
