Optional: Ribbing (at least 70cm / 27 1/2in wide) for cuffs etc. if main fabric has less than 20% stretch: regular sleeve - 0.7m (3/4yd); balloon sleeve - 0.8m (7/8yd)
Optional: If you’re using a stretchy sweater knit, use 30cm (12in) of 6-9mm (1/4in) wide satin ribbon, clear elastic or stay tape to stabilise the shoulders
Sewing machine or overlocker (serger).
Basic tools, incl. ballpoint machine needle (a walking foot can be helpful if you’re using a regular sewing machine)

Fabric Suggestions

Sweatshirt fleece, French terry, ponte, double knit, interlock or sweater knit with at least 10% stretch. N.B. You’ll need a sturdy machine to sew the balloon sleeve version in a thick sweatshirting fabric.

Returning to sewing clothes

I used to sew clothes when I was 18yrs now at 54yrs I find myself drawn to these simple easy patterns. The colours and presentation attracted me initially then the simple instructions. I tried the ‘Stretch book’ first then Billy and it’s so easy to sew sweatshirt fabric when you use the right equipment. Jersey is comfy too. I like the easy speed at which the project comes together. I used the short YouTube assistant videos and I watch some of those too before I got started. The people who teach and model and genuine real people who inspire you. It’s easy. Thank you. I’m going to sew more clothes now. Finding my happy place again. ☺️

Perfect Fit

It took a while to put the puzzle of a pattern together but it was worth it.
It is such a flattering sweatshirt pattern and I am so happy with the result of my two jumpers.

Billie Sweatshirt

I love this sweatshirt, I made it in an Alpine Fleece which I bought from Jenny Stitches and added ribbing to the neck, cuffs and bottom in pink. I i altered the neck as I found it a little high for me. That was easy to do and I am happy with it. I will be making the dress version next.
