Optional: Ribbing (at least 70cm / 27 1/2in wide) for cuffs etc. if main fabric has less than 20% stretch: regular sleeve - 0.7m (3/4yd); balloon sleeve - 0.8m (7/8yd)
Optional: If you’re using a stretchy sweater knit, use 30cm (12in) of 6-9mm (1/4in) wide satin ribbon, clear elastic or stay tape to stabilise the shoulders
Sewing machine or overlocker (serger).
Basic tools, incl. ballpoint machine needle (a walking foot can be helpful if you’re using a regular sewing machine)

Fabric Suggestions

Sweatshirt fleece, French terry, ponte, double knit, interlock or sweater knit with at least 10% stretch. N.B. You’ll need a sturdy machine to sew the balloon sleeve version in a thick sweatshirting fabric.

Excellent flexible pattern

I've made 1 sweatshirt and 3 jumper dresses in this. It's a very flexible pattern, the jumper dress can be worn over leggings or made a bit longer in more drapy material and worn over tights

Top and dress

I have many tops with this - my favourite pattern but I decided to make the dress. I made slight variations for my 5'2'' frame and age 71. I lengthened it by 4 inches and didn't use the band. I am loving it, I have made loads of tops for Autumn/Winter but this is the first jersey dress I have made.

My favourite pattern for my tops

I have made another 2 tops with thicker material for the cooler months. I find this pattern so easy to sew and the quality of the instructions and paper is great. It is my go to pattern, well worth the money. I find that Tilly and the buttons patterns are of good sizing. Thank you.x

Super easy project

Billie sweatshirt has so many options . I did mine with plain sleeves and left bottom without ribbing . Made with a textured stretch fabric one for me one for my daughter super comfortable. Easy to follow instructions with photos if I can do it anyone can ! And I've only been sewing for a year.

This is my go to pattern

I love this pattern. This was the first pattern I purchased from Tilly and the Buttons and I found it so easy to understand, with fabulous written and picture instructions. It has worked very well with the jersey stretch as in the pictures. I plan to make the dress very soon. I am 5ft 2ins and the measurements are fine for me, but maybe would suggest making it longer if you are taller than me, but it's personal choice. Happy Sewing.
