GET INSPIRED #SewingMarnie
I was so impressed by this pattern. The quality is miles above commercial brands that sell at the same price. The pattern is on durable paper, you get a pattern leaflet with pictures and detailed instructions. The quality is unparalleled and so much care and attention was put into the pattern and production. It was clearly made by sewers for sewers. The dress is gorgeus and I couldn't be happier with it. Would definitely recommend and buy from them again!
Your review makes our hearts sing! Thank you so much for such a lovely review - we’re thrilled you love both the pattern and the finished dress. Looking forward to hearing about what you sew next! Abi x
I’ve always enjoyed making T&TB patterns since I learnt to sew in 2015. I chose this pattern to try the pintuck detail. I plan to make another with a stiffer fabric as the viscose (pictured) creases terribly.
Thank you for your review, Nikki! I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed sewing up our patterns since 2015! I totally understand about the viscose creasing – a stiffer fabric will definitely make a difference for those pretty tucks. Can't wait to see next make! 😊Happy sewing! Virginija x
As always with TATB patterns, this was a really straightforward make thanks to the super clear instructions. I made with a deadstock viscose and loved the end result, the pin tucks look great even using a floaty fabric. I used french seams on the non-gathered seams which made for a tidy finish and caused no issue with the pattern coming together.
The top is super comfy and I've worn dressed up and down. Will definitely be making the dress version, complete with pockets. My daughter wants one too :-) Thanks Team Tilly 😃
Hi Jo, thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're so happy to hear you enjoyed making the top, and it's great that the pin tucks and french seams worked so well with the viscose. We can’t wait to see your dress version – and how lovely that your daughter wants one too! 😊 Happy sewing! Virginija x
Ok, so after a few years (30 or so) I’ve taken up sewing again. Made a few simpler garments over the past year and wanted to try and push myself a bit, hence the Marnie dress. Learning to do the puckers, gathers and binding was such fun. Never attempted those before and the results were pretty good. I even added in seam pockets (thanks for the free pattern). The instructions are amazing. Love all the photos, and if I got stuck, the online videos helped no end. I added another 10cm to the length of the dress as I’m 5’9” and also about 5cm to the arms too. The jury is still out on the end result.. .. I think I chose the wrong fabric- 100% cotton, so it doesn’t drape that well and hence I feel a bit poofy in it…. I actually took some out of the side seams as it seemed to stick out too much and I think that looks better on me in this fabric. Love the dress, love the fabric just maybe not together.. still it was fun to make, learnt new skills and would make again - in a different fabric!
I loved the style but it came up very ‘blouses’ on me
Hi Beverley. Marnie is designed to be blousey, the finished garment will have lots of ease which makes it easy to fit but if you need any fitting help check out the Extra Pattern Support for Marnie on our blog https://www.tillyandthebuttons.com/2022/09/fitting-marnie.html
